Mark & I are very lucky and happy that both the kids go to bed great at night. We have our routine. Read a few books on the couch. Get a vitamin. Head upstairs for teeth brushing, washing hands & face and then into bed for snuggles. Mark has a cute song he sings to Daniel and a couple of stories that he tells to Natalie. I talk to the kids about things that happened during the day that were their favorite part a sad part and something that they are looking forward to doing the next day.
After we say good night and shut the doors, we don’t hear from them again until the morning….well that’s like 90% of the time. We have spells of the kids waking up during the night and wanting to sleep with us or having to go potty. But normally they are in their rooms looking at a books until they fall asleep.
Occasionally we will hear a door open and a soft, cute voice ask for a drink of water or a hug or any other number of excuses to not go to bed.
Last night was not different from any other nights. Read a book, bathroom and into bed. We said our good nights gave kisses and hugs. Mark & I went down stairs and were talking when a few minutes later we heard a door open. It was silent and then I asked Daniel “what do you need?” pause , silence Daniel “ a pineapple” silence…….mark and I laughed – how could you not.
After giggling, I asked why do you want a pineapple? “cause I like it” we explained that bedtime was not a time for eating pineapple and that he needed to get back into bed. He was fine with that, went in his room and shut the door!
We knew it was Daniel who opened his door because it was completely silent afterwards (until he spoke) natalie’s night time blanket has a bell in it – so we can always tell where she is since ‘night nights’ will give her away!
