last thursday night, i took the kids and meet everyone at prescott park - a GREAT time - until the ride home.
let me back up a bit - i remembered from last year that during the intermission, people walk around selling glow sticks/necklaces. before heading down to the show, i bought a couple of packages at the dollar store. when natalie & daniel noticed others kids with glow stick - i was able to pull mine out of the bag and save the day. the kids had lots of fun playing with them. kept them around their necks all night long. everything was perfect until the ride home.
now mind you that it is WAY past the kids bedtime. i am driving in the dark around portsmouth - so not 100% sure of the roads and how to get home. i finally get to a place where i am pretty sure i know the way and all of a sudden blood curdling SCREAM start from the back seat. natalie is crying that her eye hurts(natalie tends to be a bit dramatic). i calmly tell her to blink - thinking that she has a hair or dust in her eye. the screaming gets louder and more intense. finally i pull over. and open her door to find out what happened. i rummage through the bags in hopes of finding a water bottle that i can use to flush her eye out. while digging through bags, i find out that somehow the "special water" from the glow stick got into her eye.
as i am holding her hands & legs down with my knee, holding her head back & eye open with one hand while pouring water over her face with the other - daniel starts crying. he must have figured - 'why not everyone else is screaming & crying - i've got to get in on that action!' just lovely
natalie's eye is doing fine. the flushing with water worked. for much of the ride home the discussion from the back seat was "that is why you don't put things in your eye" daniel was telling natalie - if he was the wise, older sibling!
thankfully the kids fell asleep and even slept in a bit in the morning.
